Accounting Specialist I

Fairfax, VA

Provides basic accounting support for one or more financial accounting areas, primarily labor and leave processing.  Responsible for employee account setup and maintenance.  Responsible for responding to employee & supervisor inquiries with timely guidance over time reporting. Works closely with multiple teams and requires strong communication skills. 

Job Responsibilities

Processes employee timesheets semi-monthly, as well as out-of-cycle prior period adjustments
Supports new hire setup process, including:
Employee classification review
Leave code validation
Maintain and update timekeeping training materials
Liaison between Finance and IT to resolve login issues
Works directly with employees to answer timekeeping compliance and system functionality inquiries
Assists supervisors with access requests and employee group management
Maintains system leave module and performs employee-level review to ensure adherence to Paid Time Off policy
Prepares monthly leave accruals within Deltek Costpoint
Serves as liaison between finance and payroll department, working to resolve discrepancies between labor distribution and employee pay
Assists with the month-end financial close process – including journal entry preparation and exception reporting.
Provides guidance to other departments as it relates to accounting policies and procedures.
Monitors organizational Timecard Support inbox and ticketing queues
Maintains documentation consistent with ASM's control environment.

Minimum Qualifications

1-2 years of accounting or labor/payroll experience required; 2+ years of experience preferred 
High School Diploma or GED
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field a plus

Other Job Specific Skills

Understanding of timekeeping compliance specific to government contracting. 
Experience utilizing Deltek Costpoint
Experience utilizing Cognos a plus 
Experience with financial reporting. 
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. 
Ability to work well with others. 
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present to groups. 
Demonstrates the ability to think quickly and be proactive.

Physical Demands
Light office duties which may include sitting for prolonged periods of time, viewing digital screens for prolonged periods of time, lifting up to 10 pounds, use of a desk or mobile phone, typing on a keyboard, writing with a pen, pencil, or stylus, etc.
